Animals Show Respect For Those That Have Passed

The following article is from BBC Future.  Research is indicating that animals are indeed aware of the concept and reality of death and participate in specific rituals.

This is a good reminder for you to be aware of signs of grief and mourning in any other companion animal you may have.  Incorporate their need to mourn along with yours. It would not be uncommon for them to be emotionally impacted by the loss of their friend and companion. Some signs they may be in emotional distress are:

  • despondency
  • agitation
  • anxiety, including searching behaviors and onset or increase of separation anxiety
  • change in appetite, most commonly a loss in appetite

To comfort and support every living being in your household that may be impacted from the passing of a companion can also help you work through your own grief issues
