Creating a Memorial – Professionally Crafted Tributes

In the first post of this series, I shared a few ideas I’ve found for creating a hand crafted memorials. With this week’s post, I’m excited to share a few professionally crafted memorials I’ve found.

Moving forward after the loss of your pet is difficult.  A specific memorial item can gather all your emotions and thoughts together into a positive place to remember your pet and share beautiful memories with others.

A whole industry has sprung up around providing professionally crafted Pet Memorials.  Deciding on the right memorial for you to remember your pet by is an extremely personal decision.  I’ve reviewed many sites and hundreds of ideas for memorials.  A few ideas really resonated with me and I would like to share them with you to help you get started with ideas.

Mosaic Stepping Stone

When your companion passes away, one common fear is that as time moves forward, you will forget what your companion animal looked like.  Or perhaps your pet was ill and it is difficult to remember them as they were at the end stage of their life.  Having a mosaic created from pictures of your companion is a gentle and realistic way to ease the fear of time erasing or diluting your memories.

Karen White is the owner of a wonderful business, K-Dub Designs.  Most of the stones she creates are memorials. Karen says, “It’s much easier to look at your dog’s face on a stone (which makes you smile and remember all the good times you shared) as opposed to a marker with a name and dates (which makes you sad because they are gone).”

All the tiles used are donated from a local tile shop and are recycled into these unique creations.

3-D Crystal Keepsake

This company will create a keepsake with an image of your pet laser-etched into a piece of crystal.  This idea resonated with me because it captures the image of your choice of your pet as you wish to remember them within an object that you can keep on a bookcase, desk or tribute location.  Testimonials speak of the vitality the object projects as well as a sense of permanence. If interested, you can check them out on their website or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/memoriesincrystal

Memorial Candle

http://www.furryangel.com

Many religions and cultures pray, meditate, and quietly reflect on life and loss with the accompaniment of the continuation of a candle flame. The flame can become a reflection of your beliefs, as well as a physical, intentional activity to support your prayers and release of emotions.

Testimonials highlighted on this site mention lighting the candle and reflecting on the life of your pet.  The candle provided many a specific place to gather around to pray, remember, reflect and gave them a physical and metaphorical sense of warmth.

The candle is decorated with the following poem, written by Isla Paschal Richardson:

“…Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk of me as if I were beside you… I loved you so – ’twas Heaven here with you.”

As a word of note – I do not have an economic affiliation with any of the companies or products listed, have not received anything in return for highlighting their company or products, and have not personally used them.  I have talked with many of the people and companies highlighted and feel comfortable enough to provide you with some general ideas that can spark your own creativity.
